About eTeanga

eTeanga is a business that helps people learn the Irish language online.

It’s run by Eoin Ó Conchúir in Luimneach/Limerick, Ireland in his spare time.

Background

In 2002, Eoin established irishgaelictranslator.com, followed by irish-sayings.com. The community grew steadily, with irishgaelictranslator hitting 60,000 members who posted. Around 2008, Eoin wanted to use an Irish dictionary but found that they were all copyrighted, not least by the Irish state. He launched irishionary.com, a free collaborative Irish language dictionary. This set of sites was sold in 2011.

Learn to speak Irish

eTeanga currently runs Bitesize Irish Gaelic, where you can learn to speak Irish by learning aloud. If you can’t find local classes, they try the demo lesson. There are lots of Irish Gaelic recordings to listen along to. Read out weekly Irish language blog for resources on how to speak Irish.
