Took weeks to find a solution to this error.
After upgrading to Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty, upon startup I kept getting the following error:
Enter password for default keyring to unlock
The application ‘NetworkManager Applet’ (/usr/bin/nm-applet) wants access to the default keyring, but it is locked.
The solution
- Right-click on the wireless applet in the task bar
- Find your wireless connection, and hit Edit.
- Check the option “Available to all users”.
Thanks to tentwelveight for uncovering the answer.
Thank you.
I’ve got this anoying problem on a EEEbuntu (Jaunty). Now, it is fixed, thank you.
Yup, it was a very annoying problem. Glad it helped.
Thank you! You’re a life saver. This was driving me insane, I had wireless router box which I had to keep connecting a monitor and keyboard to. All solved now!
Thank you!!! You saved my laptop!!!!
Bless you!
I had been just closing the window that keeps on asking for the password and after killing it 10-15 times, I get connected. I have just followed the instructions – and will know soon if it has helped. Million dollar question for me – what password does it expect in the first place? Is it the root/admin password? I guess not – supplying it did not work! How does one set the keyring password then? If I never set one, what’s the default one? Will greatly appreciate any insights. – Abhay
Thanks you so much! It’s a huge relief pal!
Awesomely helpful, thanks!
This keyring solution also worked on netbook remix 9.10 which was having the same problem.
Thanks again
